Pubs in Leyton and Leytonstone due to close early to avoid Leyton Orient football match disorder

Pubs are set to close early tonight over fears of violence associated with Leyton Orient's match with Southend United tonight.

Police requested that nine pubs in Leyton and Leytonstone will shut their doors at 9pm in an attempt to prevent disorder.

The Red Lion in High Road, Leytonstone, has agreed to close at 4pm.

The move comes after two drinkers at the Walnut Tree in Leytonstone High Road were attacked by a group of 10 to 15 men on January 26 at 10pm, following an O's match with Notts County.

A 44-year-old man and a 26-year-old man suffered head injuries.
No-one has been arrested.

The football club have announced there will be no cash turnstiles open for home supporters at tonight's match and that only tickets booked online or in person from the ticket office in the West Stand of Brisbane Road Stadium will be accepted.

The Johnstone's Paint Trophy first leg tie at Brisbane Road kicks off at 7.45pm.

Is this a joke? Has football really started to take over the world? If this does happen football clubs should be made to compensate businesses, they seem to have endless amounts of money to pay their little primadonnas far, far in excess of anything they are really worth.

It is well known that south end supporters can be hooligans and that when they moved out of Lepton to south end they did not realise that the Olympic was coming and that house prices would rocket in the area and maybe they wish they never left?

Leyton Orient on the other hand are quite tolerent although you do get a few idiotic ones over there who want to fight and be rude with the chantings at the Barry Hernes family.

I wouldn't really say that Orient or Southend have endless amounts of money, although players are probably paid more than most people even in the lower leagues. I would think that the pubs that are closing are the ones that normally make quite a bit of money out of the local football so to close once, midweek, probably isn't going to cost them too much compared to what they make for the rest of the season.

It is a shame and a sad indictment of the 'fans' that any business should have to close just in case things get out of hand though. Prevention better than cure in this case I suppose.

Was this a football related incident ? and are the pubs in Stratford also closing early this evening as I would suggest they are just as far away from the Matchroom stadium as the Walnut tree is. Has this area now reverted to the good old '80s where all violence is related to football.

Err, if you read the article it the Leyton fans that are the source of concern here ... Unless Southend hooligans travelled all the way here during the Orient/Notts County match just to attack two random strangers.

I've only been on this site a short time but already seen that you seem to do nothing but spout complete rubbish and nonsense with no resemblance to the truth!

Where did it imply that the hooligans are Leyton Supporters?

The ones that I know are in their 60's and 70's and can just about walt let alone fight.

Southend area has it's own problems stemming from the Mods Rocking Teddy Boy years and there are some ill feelings and it is not like it use to be in Southend as it is very expensive there for things like Fish and Chips and Confectioary like rock sticks if you went there for a day out.

Leyton has changed also and most of the Fans live in nicer parts like Harlow and Avely.

Oh I've been trying so hard to restrain myself from feeding the troll but really? Pleased Cornbeefur has stopped referring to "south end", however much like with his/her? views on Walthamstow all that's spouted is ignorant and inconsistent tosh. I have been to Orient/Southend matches on numerous occasions and never encountered any violence and the report doesn't immediately associate the attack with supporters of either side.

This is bonkers either the local policing is adequate to deal with the match or it isn't no way should pubs be asked to close early because of security concerns...

Dreadful that the whole community is affected for what a 3500 attendance at Brisbane road?

Historically they are known as such whereas Leyton Orient fans are dedicated and loyal and have no interest in football yobbishness.

Julian Lloyd Webber and Steve Davis and Barry Hearb would not associate themselves with such aggressions.

Historically Southend supporters are are known as hooligans are they, well please explain the history behind your accusation, I have been attending football matches for the past 44 years and even during the bad times of the late70s and early 80s Southend United supporters have never been known as hooligans, this is unless you know better, if indeed this is so I challange you to provide sound evidence to support your accusation
