Three pubs have scored top marks in hygiene inspections.

The Drum in Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, The Walnut Tree in High Road, Leytonstone and The King’s Ford in Chingford Mount Road, Chingford were each awarded a five-star rating in Waltham Forest Council’s Scores on the Doors health and hygiene inspections.

Inspectors judge food businesses in the borough on how hygienic and well-managed the food preparation is.

Paul Sweeney, pub manager at The Drum, said: “I am delighted that we have gained the top rating and I’m sure our customers will welcome the news too.

“Standards of hygiene at the pub are of paramount importance.

“All of the staff work hard to ensure that the pub offers its customers the highest levels of hygiene at all time and we are delighted that our efforts have been recognised with the five-star rating.”

The Guardian has requested a list of results from the authority.

Big fan of The Drum - a decent old-school boozer with no pretensions, cheap (if not exactly cheerful) and, it would seem, clean - more than many pubs with pretensions can claim I suspect!

Why shouldn't all premises have a 5 star rating?

Least one could reasonably expect.
