Anger at proposed relocation of Post Office services

A campaign has been launched against the closure of a post office which has operated in the same location for 70 years.

A consultation is underway on a proposal to stop services in a branch at 619 Forest Road in Walthamstow and open a new post office in the same street at 532 to 536.

The Post Office company plans to extend opening hours on Saturday at the new branch, but some people are angry that the current operator, who has been serving the community for 25 years, is losing a fundamental part of his business.

Campaigners also claim it will be inconvenient, and potentially dangerous, for customers to walk from current shops and cross a busy road to the new location as there is no crossing nearby.

A statement on the Facebook page says: “The 150 metre diversion to use the crossing will be ignored and could well result in accidents.”
