Rallies this week will show support for the Leytonstone hospital's staff and services
Around 120 people took part in a rally to protest over predicted cuts to services and jobs at Whipps Cross University Hospital.
Union members and community groups called on Barts Health, which runs the hospital, to cancel costly Private Finance Initiatives which have led to a mutli-million pound hole in the trust's finances.
Len Hockey, Waltham Forest's Unison branch secretary, said Monday’s demonstration was directed at uniting the hospital’s workforce, and another demonstration planned for Saturday would focus more on the community.
Another rally will take place tonight as community members lobby a council meeting at the Town Hall in Forest Road, Walthamstow.
Group We Are Waltham Forest Saving Our NHS plan to protest ahead of a meeting of the Public Health and Health Delivery Overview and Scrutiny Sub-Committee.
Barts Health insist there are no plans to cut jobs or services at the site in Leytonstone.
The Care Quality Commission and Barts Health are expected to speak on recent issues at Whipps Cross Hospital.
