AN HISTORIC Walthamstow church has held a special display to celebrate its 900th birthday.
Visitors to St Mary's Church in Walthamstow village were able to view a wide range of old photographs from the area's past and were given personal historical accounts of growing up in E17 by a group of elderly residents.
The display was brought up to date with drawings, photographs and essays by local schoolchildren, giving their perspective on modern life in Walthamstow.
A tour of the bell tower was also available for the more adventurous visitors to the free event, which is due to finish later this week.
