Bones probe breakthrough

Bones found in a Walthamstow allotment last month have been identified as the remains of a prostitute who went missing in 2002.

Forensic examination has revealed the remains are the bones of Julie Marie Dorsett, from Clapton, who was 33 when she disappeared.

The bones were quickly identified as human after being discovered by a member of the public at Low Hall Farm Allotments, in Bridge Road, on Sunday August 24.

A post mortem on Friday failed to reveal the cause of death, which is now being treated as suspicious.

Ms Dorsett was reported missing from a family friend’s home in Benthal Road, Hackney.

Det Insp Andy Chalmers, who is leading the investigation, said: "We would like to hear from anyone who may have information about what happened to Julie after she went missing.

"We are trying to piece together events from October 2002 until the time her remains were found.

"At this stage we cannot confirm whether she has been murdered but we are treating the death as suspicious.

"We have only found bones from the top half of her body and searches continue for the rest of her remains.

"Julie lived in Hackney but her remains have been found in Walthamstow - why was she taken there?

"Did anyone see anything suspicious in either area around the time that Julie disappeared? Did you know Julie? We would ask anyone who may be able to help to come forward.

"We will treat any information in the strictest confidence."

Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8358 0200 or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
