WALTHAM FOREST: Leader shortlisted for Northampton seat

COUNCIL Leader Clyde Loakes is on the shortlist to become the next Labour candidate for the Northampton South constituency.

He is one of five candidates being considered to stand in the next general election.

He now has until November 1 to convince Labour Party members in the constituency that he is the man to get the seat back from the Tories, after Brian Binley MP took it from Labour in 2005.

Cllr Loakes grew up close to Northampton but has not lived there since he went to University.

He has been a councillor in Waltham Forest for ten years and leader for five.

He said that although he considers London his home he still has a connection with Northampton.

If you look at the political jiggery-pokery that has gone on in the ruthless and byzantine world of the Labour Party in Northampton South in the last, you can see the attraction. Mr Loakes would fit right in in the party there, but I do kind of feel sorry for what the ordinary unsuspecting people of Northampton would be letting themselves in for if he were to be allowed to stand for Parliament as their MP.

Technomist, tell us more. I like the sound of the Northampton South Labour party. Sorry for the voters and all that, but if they can provide a happy home for Clyde Loakes, they're doing a favour to Walthamstow.
