WALTHAMSTOW: Five fined for public drinking

FIVE people have been fined for drinking in public since a clampdown on anti-social behaviour associated with street drinking was introduced.

The Alcohol Restriction Zone in Walthamstow town centre allows people to drink in public but aims to stamp out anti-social drinking.

A total of 20 people have been warned by police since the initiative started.

If drinkers refuse to hand over the can or bottle to a police officer, they could be fined £50 or face arrest and prosecution with a maximum £500 fine.

Police and CPSO officers from the High Street Safer Neighbourhood Team make periodic patrols in the area.

And if they are all over 18 there should be no problem in the public being told their names in addition to this report telling us exactly how much each of the culprits were fined.
Was it the minimum £50 or higher? More publicity will assist this exclusion zone being more effective.

Redfox, I wouldn't get too excited. Now they have had their headline pretending that they are doing their job the police will soon revert to their usual state of slothful and complascent inactivity.

I see that the size of the pirate dvd and cigarette smuggling gang which operates with suspicious impunity in Walthamstow High Street has doubled in recent months.
