FIVE people have been fined for drinking in public since a clampdown on anti-social behaviour associated with street drinking was introduced.
The Alcohol Restriction Zone in Walthamstow town centre allows people to drink in public but aims to stamp out anti-social drinking.
A total of 20 people have been warned by police since the initiative started.
If drinkers refuse to hand over the can or bottle to a police officer, they could be fined £50 or face arrest and prosecution with a maximum £500 fine.
Police and CPSO officers from the High Street Safer Neighbourhood Team make periodic patrols in the area.
