The Pump House Steam & Transport Museum, in Walthamstow, has won an award

A WALTHAMSTOW museum has won a national award.

The Pump House Steam & Transport Museum, in South Access Road, has won a Dorothea award for conservation and heritage.

The museum, which has now been relaunched as the Lea Valley Experience, celebrates achievements on road, rail, sea and in the air in the Lee Valley since the early 1800s.

The Dorothea awards recognise works done to improve sites of industrial and archaeological importance.

This is a well deserved award.

They have managed this on displaying scrap vehicles and rust buckets and imagine what could be achieved if more investment was made by the local authority.

I know they will be getting their triplane out imminently.

They deserve an award for battling on for years against not just Council apathy, but active hostility.Someone involved has an excellent vision for promoting the Lea Valley on the basis of its many contributions to the innovations that have made the modern world - a sort of potential Ironbridge for the 20th century. This could put the area on the map, along with the other amenities the Council has done its best to destroy over the years such as the WMGallery, cinema and dog track.

Look forward to seeing you with your googles and leather coat tomorrow, Mr FG.

I want to attend with my traction engine but my back is playing up and I will see how these new pills I am on, Naproxen, work out as they do not cause drowsiness. I may just pop along as a spectator.

Congratulations! The Pump House is an excellent museum with lots for all ages. Friendly people, and it's all done by volunteers. I've never understood why the council doesn't back them to the hilt. But I don't understand much that this council does.
