An 18-year-old man who was arrested in connection with an acid attack and stabbing in Marchant Road has been bailed

A TEENAGER who was arrested in connection with an acid attack and stabbing has been bailed to return in early September.

The 18-year-old was picked up by police on the morning of July 4.

The victim, 24, who is a Danish national of Asian background, is still described as "critical but stable".

He is currently in a coma and could lose his sight if he survives.

The attack happened at about 2am on July 2.

A gang approached the victim as he walked along Marchant Road, before throwing acid over him and stabbing him twice in the back.

He suffered serious burns to his face and chest and the gang were reportedly wearing masks and gloves so that they would not be burnt.

He managed to escape his attackers and an ambulance was called.

Police are keeping an open mind about the motive and are still trying to trace the victim's family.
