Woman in hospital after second accident involving police car in Chingford in weeks

A WOMAN has been hospitalised after her car was involved in an accident with an unmarked police car.

Officers believe the police car was responding to an emergency call and had its lights and sirens on.

The woman, believed to be 50-years-old, suffered head injuries as a result of the accident.

A London Ambulance spokesman said she was conscious and was stablised at the scene before being taken to Whipps Cross University Hospital.

The crash happened at the junction between Sewardstone Road and Kings Head Hill, Chingford, at 10.50am today (Monday).

The police car veered off the road onto the pavement while a damaged black Ford KA sports car was left in the middle of the road.

Police are speaking to witnesses and have closed a section of Sewardstone Road.

Pensioner Brian Elton died after being hit by a police car in nearby Ridgeway on June 20.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission found the car, which was responding to a call from London Ambulance Service, was travelling at an acceptable speed with its lights and siren on.

The Met's Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) is now investigating.
