Waltham Forest Council in Stonewall's top 100 index of gay-friendly employers

THE council has been named as one of the top 100 gay-friendly organisations to work for in the country.

The Workplace Equality Index is compiled annually by lesbian, gay and bisexual rights charity Stonewall, and Waltham Forest Council made it into the top 100.

The council is at number 82, up on last year's ranking of 109, and attributes this to its work with schools, its Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) steering group, equalities training and research into the opinions and experiences of the borough's LGBT community.

Cllr Marie Pye, Waltham Forest’s cabinet member for communities and housing, said: “Waltham Forest wants to attract and retain the best talent regardless of background or sexual orientation, and it’s achievements like this that put us on the map as a prospective employer.”

Stonewall received 352 submissions to the index this year, and named IBM as the number one place to work, Hampshire Constabulary second and Ernst & Young third.

The index is based on a range of indicators which this year included the largest ever survey of lesbian, gay and bisexual employees, with over 7,000 people taking part.

The survey revealed that staff satisfaction levels were highest at the top ranking organisations in the index.

Congratulations to the council on this achievement and let's hope they get round to posting this excellent news on the home page of their own website shortly as it's not there yet.

In that case why is it so important to count how many gay, lesbian and transexuals are employed?

Did Cllr Marie Pye explain what has happened to all the money that has been stolen from the public by officers in the council, what steps are being takne to recover all the money and did she say what she knows about the role of her fellow councillors in the systematic looting and avoidance of anti-fraud protections that has been going on for some years with virtual impunity?
