PIONEERING Jazz musician and composer Sir John Dankworth has died.
Sir John was born in Woodford and was brought up in Highams Park, attending Sir George Monoux School for Boys in Walthamstow.
Hailed as Britain's first jazz star, saxophonist Sir John won a place at the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 17.
He later scored films and wrote the theme tunes to the Avengers.
He founded the London Symphony Orchestra summer pops and received the Freedom of the City of London in 1994.
