MORE than £2m will be spent improving Leyton following a successful bid for investment.
Major improvements will be made to Leyton High Road and the surrounding area as part of a drive to improve the area around the Olympic Park ahead of the 2012 games.
Design for London, part of the London Development Agency (LDA), worked with each of the five Olympic host boroughs to bid for cash.
Waltham Forest Council and Design for London will now begin working on plans to spend the £2.25m awarded for the scheme.
Leyton High Road will benefit from £1.25m of the grant, which will be spent on improvements including better lighting, safer paving and improved roads.
There will also be improvements made to Drapers Playing Fields.
The remaining £1m will be spent on developing better pedestrian and cycle access through Leyton Mills.
