BROADCASTER and historian Tristram Hunt has become the latest figure linked with the Labour candidacy for the Leyton & Wanstead constituency.
The Guardian understands that Mr Hunt, who has worked for Labour during its last three election campaigns, is now the national Labour party's preferred candidate, following treasurer Jack Dromey's decision to aim for the safe seat of Erdington, in the midlands.
Interviews to shortlist candidates will take place on Thursday.
Cllrs Afzal Akram and Marie Pye, along with Leyton & Wanstead Labour party secretary Richard Wilkins, are believed to be among the local candidates being interviewed.
