Leyton singer, actress and writer releases charity record

A COMEDY actress and playwright has released a self-penned song to raise money for charity.

Eleanor Bennet, of Dawlish Road, in Leyton, released her first single, Mother and Child, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, after being touched by the illness while working as a carer for many years.

The 35-year-old said: “In between acting, writing and singing, I have worked in care homes and witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of dementia.

"I’ve seen the heartbreak in a daughter’s eyes when her mother no longer recognises her and so many precious memories being stolen by this awful condition.

“Writing and recording Mother and Child is my way of helping to make a difference, by raising awareness of the thousands of people across the country who are affected by dementia and raising money for vital research, while celebrating motherhood.”

The song has the support of Martha Ross, former Leytonstone resident and mother of television presenters Jonathan and Paul, who said: “This is a beautiful song, which will pull at any mum’s heartstrings and Eleanor has done a fantastic job writing it for such a worthy cause.”

The actress has also is also starring in a award-woman show called “Off Her Trolley”, a comedy she wrote about the impact of Alzheimers disease on the individual and their families.

The show was performed in Waltham Forest last year and is currently showing in Crawley.

The single is available now download from Amazon and iTunes. Seventy per cent of proceeds from sales will go to the Alzheimer’s Research Trust.
