CHINGFORD: Father of killed peacemaker calls for improved CCTV

THE father of a peacemaker who died after being knocked to the floor while trying to break up a fight has called for improved CCTV.

David Joslin was knocked unconscious while trying to stop a brawl in Old Church Road, Chingford, at about 1.30am on December 20.

The 23-year-old never regained consciousness and died a week later.

Speaking at tonight's meeting of North Chingford Community Council, his father Phil Joslin called for improvements to be made to the borough's CCTV network.

His calls come one month after a manslaughter charge against Barry Oliver, 29, of Littleton Avenue, Chingford, was dropped due to a lack of evidence.

Detectives released CCTV footage of potential witnesses standing yards from the scene, but the actual incident was not filmed.

Mr Joslin senior, who attended the meeting with his wife Margaret, said: "There is only one CCTV camera covering the whole of Chingford Mount.

"If the camera had been facing the other way, it would have captured the incident.

"There is only one camera in north Chingford, which is by the library.

"We need more cameras. At least we can get some justice for the perpetrators."

Mr Joslin also said he believed cameras would act as a deterrent to criminals.

Community chairman Kevin Wyatt-Lown asked for Mr Joslin's comments to be forwarded to the council for a response.

Anyone with information about the attack on David Joslin should contact police on (020) 8345 3985 or Crimestoppers anonymously on (0800) 555111.

These camera's are supposed to be for the prevention and detection of crime. But are being used for civil offences, Parking. The camera that could have filmed this Murder, was facing towards the parking spaces outside the £+ shop, As it always has been. This makes the council money for parking fines. There is not quite enough room for two cars, so the second car overlaps the bay, and gets a ticket. They will only put more camera's in that make them money, not to prevent or detect crime

Cameras, or spying... does not prevent crime. Tanoy systems and what not on them CCTVs might.

if we are going to have CCTV cameras, a controlversial issue in itself, then they should at least be used for detecting/deterring real crime at least as much as they are used for revenue raising.
