LEYTON: Business resumes after waste blaze

BUSINESS has resumed at a recycling plant after a massive ten-hour rubbish blaze.

A 210 square metre stack of waste caught fire at the Bywaters Recycling and Waste Management Centre at 5.30pm on Tuesday (June 22).

It took 30 firefighters to get the blaze under control by just after 4am the next morning.

No one was injured or evacuated and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A spokeswoman for Bywaters said: “The fire at Bywaters Recycling and Waste Management Centre was an unfortunate incident.

“Thanks to the prompt response of the Fire Brigade and the robust Accident and Emergency Procedures that the Bywaters' Compliance Team have in place, the fire was dealt with efficiently with no injuries and business was resumed the following morning.

“We would like to thank everyone involved for their prompt and professional response.”
