CAMPAIGNERS, trade unionists and left wing activists will officially launch the Waltham Forest Anti-Cuts Union at a rally tonight.
The newly-formed lobby group will be holding its first meeting at the William Morris Community Centre in Greenleaf Road, Walthamstow, to discuss its strategy for protesting against public sector cuts in funding by the Government and Waltham Forest Council.
The group has already held a number of protests outside council meetings at Waltham Forest Town Hall.
Socialist Party member Nancy Taaffe, who is helping to lead the group, said: "Why should the public sector pay when we never caused the mess? The banks and the city hedge funds have recouped their 2008 losses.
"It is those people, who caused the crisis, who have refused to pay their debts.
“We must fight the vicious axe men in the millionaires' government who seek to destroy our NHS, our education, our services, our jobs and our young people's future. There are alternatives to cuts.”
It starts at 7.30pm.
Waltham Forest Council recently approved a cut of £2.6million from its budget for this year after a reduction in Government funding.
