WALTHAM FOREST: MP to meet train bosses over delays to Victoria line

DELAYS on the Victoria Line caused by new ‘state-of-the-art’ trains will be on the agenda when Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy meets Tube bosses.

The Guardian reported last week that passengers into Blackhorse Road and Walthamstow central have suffered regular delays over a number of months, with passengers sometimes trapped underground in high temperatures for long periods.

Transport for London say the new trains, which are part of a £1bn upgrade of the line, are experiencing teething problems, including ‘over sensitive” door sensors.

Miss Creasy says she has received a number of complaints about the service from constituents and has set up a meeting with Victoria Line management, which residents can attend.

She said: “I have now agreed with TfL to visit the managers of the Victoria Line firsthand to see what they are doing to address these problems and they have agreed that if a number of local residents wish to join me on this visit they can do so.

“If you would like to attend please do get in touch – this visit will be during the week beginning the 9 August and will be during daytime starting from Seven Sisters Station."

A spokeswoman apologised to passengers for the delays, which have also been caused by faulty signals.

On Wednesday my northbound Vic line tube routed to Walthamstow was terminated short at Seven Sisters in the height of the evening rush hour due to an earlier train breakdown. At least 4 further trains then terminated at Seven Sisters causing massive overcrowing and delays for passenger trying to get to Tott Hale, Blackhorse Rd & Walthamstow.

Will the line upgrade result in the elimination of the driver change-overs and generally poorer service between S.Sisters-Walthamsto
w or does the location of the line's depot near Seven Sisters permanently prevent this? Should the Seven Sisters-W'stow service continue to be sacrificed when problems occur, to benefit the rest of the line?

This may not have been such an issue when the Victoria line opened in 1968 but surely we deserve a full service to all stations north of Seven Sisters 42 years on?

Perhaps Techno2 can enlighten us, RichieA70, as he seems to be the fount of all knowledge. If you want to know anything about dead fish or electoral legitimacy he's your man so I'm sure sorting out the vagueries of the Victoria line will be a piece of cake for him!

No, can't help you there Quintilis. The inability of the Victoria Line to run properly is a total mystery to me. It has been ever since Gordon Brown started messing around with the PFI schemes which helped so many of the Labour Party's pals to get rich at our expense.

Why don't you ask Ms Creasy? I understand she has taken to tweeting about the tube trains as if she is the solution to all our ills.

At least Stella is attempting to resolve matters, Techno2, not standing on the sidelines (no pun intended) making cheap jibes at every given opportunity.

Of course, we can't all have our faces deep in the public trough making our jibes at the taxpayers' expense, can we Quintilis?

As for my jibes being cheap - I can assure you that the money wasted by the Labour Party over the past 13 yeasr cost me quite a bit of my hard-earned tax money. I can think of many better things the country could have been spending my taxes on. The ridiculous messes they have made will also continue to cost us all for many years to come, now they have managed to run up debts coming just short of 4 trillion pounds by their profligacy and PFI squanderings.

And of course, the time wasted on platforms waiting for trains that don't arrive will be a price I share with everyone else who travels on public transport. I don't know what Panglossian world of spin you live in, Quintilis, but it must be a wonderful delusion to hold not to think you are also going to be affected by the waste and corruption that the Labour Party has inflicted on the rest of us.

I'm no Candide, Techno2, and nor do I hold this to be the best of all possible worlds but, like Voltaire (and this is the only sense in which I would presume to compare myself with a genius such as him) I do believe that the human condition is capable of amelioration and that while satire has a useful role to play in that process, cynicism does not. When I read your comments I reacall his words, "prejudice is opinion without judgement".
