LEYTONSTONE: '15 involved' in stabbing

UP to 15 people may have been involved in yesterday's stabbing in Leytonstone, police have said.

The revelation comes as officers released more information about the attack this evening, including news that a man has now been arrested in connection with it.

Meanwhile the 50-year-old victim is still in hospital following the incident, which happened at around 6pm on Wednesday (September 1) by Iceland in the High Road.

Officers are keeping an open mind about the motive.

A Met spokeswoman said the force had not ruled out suspicions that the stabbing was gang related, but added that there are "a number" of suspects being hunted by officers.

It has also emerged that the victim of the attack was stabbed twice - once in the back and once in the side of his torso.

A knife, which was suspected to have been used in the attack and then dumped shortly afterwards, was found by police outside the Zulu pub on the High Road.

Officers will appeal for witnesses once they establish more details about what happened.

They make the news sometines, but on the whole you seem to be right. What influence the Olympics has on anythig is hard to tell. Probably not all that much. I suppose people just think - 'its Waltham Forest, what can you expect?'

The whole situation is very dispiriting, not helped by all the lies and spin we've had to endure in the last few yeasr about how things were all getting better when the ordinary man and woman in the street can see it hasn't really.

It is probably not news any more that the police lost contol of the issue round here some time ago and that there now is an entrenched gang culture in parts of this borough (as in some other parts of London, it should be said). Now we also have the Ministry of Justice telling the world that law and porder doesn't matter round here and they are going to shut the magistrates' court. It seems as if no-one could care less. A pity really, but with a corrupted council which seems willing to tolerate criminality at its very own heart, I do not expect a lead to be taken on restoring the rule of law from that source or things to change very much any time soon. The authorities seem to be in denial.

Ordinary citizens round here are going to have to be brave enough to get together to insist on better local government and services which really believe in upholding the rule of law, or if things carry on as they are, in a few years time it will be 'sauve qui peut'.

Of course it was gang related what a load of claptrap. I have spoken to plenty of people hwo saw it and said it was awful. When is the police, council and government going to do something about it. I agree with the above comment what's going to happen when the olympics come. This place is fast becoming a ghetto!
