DOZENS of people from across the UK and Europe who are self-confessed "Walthamstow addicts" enjoyed a mini festival celebrating all things E17 during a visit last week.
The series of events, which included history talks, live music, and tours of local landmarks, was organised by the Walthamstow Memories group to mark its 10th anniversary.
The society is based around a website which records recollections of residents past and present, but is also popular with many who do not live in the area.
Among the highlights for organisers were the presentation of a scroll honouring Walthamstow to major Cllr Geoff Walker and a donation of £750 to the Vestry House Museum.
Co-organiser Daniel Quinn, 59, who came from his home in Florence, Italy, for the gathering said: "it was a great success and all went smoothly, considering that much of the planning and organisation was made from 2,000 miles away."
Visitor Pam Ray, 72, who came from Bristol, said she was touched by the friendliness of Walthamstow residents.
She added: "There are saints and sinners everywhere but, I was blessed with the joy of meeting only the saints."
