WALTHAM FOREST: Half term discos for kids

TWO Pirate and Princess themed discos are being held for youngsters in the borough during half term next week.
The first event takes place at Chingford Assembly Hall in Station Road on Tuesday (February 14) between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
Then on Thursday (February 16) the Score Centre in Oliver Road, Leyton, will also host one, again between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
Both events will feature face painting and a treasure hunt, with a prize for best costume.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.
No booking required but entry is £1 per child.

It was an excellent scheme where sports facilities were open and events held in order to keep the kids(me) occupied during the summer break.
We would walk to Keele Uni to play squash and archery, or swim in the local pool, go on trips and the local club would even open up in the early evening, presumably a Monday being a quiet night, so we could go out dancing and meet girls.
Even though it was an affirmative police scheme it was certainly not heavy handed and there was never a clear police presence.
I wish the kids these days could have a similar activity base during the holidays, I'm not sure it is still running up there.
I'd be far happier that the council spent money on that than the Big6, me and my friends had such a great time.
It can only be a good thing if you grow up with the notion that the police are there 'for' you, not against you.
