POLICE have been granted extra time to quiz a youth arrested in connection with a murder in Leyton.

The 18-year-old was seized after Thomas Overton, also 18, was stabbed at around 4am on Sunday (August 19) in Beaumont Road.

He was pronounced dead at 4.50am.

Normally a suspect can only be held in police custody without charge for 24 hours but the Met has now successfully applied to continue questioning the youth until Wednesday evening (August 22).

A police spokesman said: "At this early stage it is believed the fight stemmed from a party in nearby Colchester Road, which spilled out into Skeltons Lane and Beaumont Road."

Anyone with information about the murder is urged to call the Homicide and Serious Crime Command unit on 020 8721 4961 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Note: Article has been updated (at 11.25am) after police issued a new incident room telephone number for witnesses and those with information to call.
