WALTHAMSTOW: EDL set date for new march

East London and West Essex Guardian Series: EDL march EDL march

THE English Defence League (EDL) is planning to march through Walthamstow weeks after a demonstration by the far-right group prompted widespread condemnation.

An attempt by 300 EDL members to march in Forest Road, Walthamstow, to a rally outside the Magistrates' Court was blocked as 3,000 opponents turned out to denounce the group on September 1.

But the EDL, which claims to be opposed to Islamic extremism and denies accusations of racism, has announced it will return to the borough on October 27.

EDL leader Tommy Robinson in a statement accused police of failing to protect the agreed route.

He said: "We're going back to Walthamstow and when we say we have to let bygones be bygones with many people across the EDL, everyone's welcome back.

"We need every man that's game going into east London on October 27. Roll on Walthamstow."

More to follow.

"Every man that's game".....surely a threat of violence from Mr Lennon, Casuals united, have stated the are having a demo in East London in November, area unspecified.

Will be interesting to see who returns to marching, numbers for Walsall on 29.9 may give a clue, the Police surely cannot say they have no intelligence about possible violence, Ihave seen plenty from edl members, many of whom sat on their computers all day on 1.9 judging by comments.

As those on the march were twittering and facebooking while under attack by bricks and AK47's, RPG etc......

Mr Lennon is up i court at leasttwice befr 27.0,oncefor not urrendering his assport befor Euro 12 and secondly for mortgage fraud and tax easion, al Capone got similar treatment to deal with his activities, mmmmm, we sall see.

The internet is awash with conspiracy theories abou Mr R/L whatevehisname is, aid by state/anyone.....he says he is brk but gets around a fair bit. ent a taxi to pick up a rival for a figt saturday night by all accounts.

Are we sure we want to bother with him?

Ok here’s my take on it, they can march again as long as they pay for the policing this time so soon after the last march, otherwise it’s taking money directly out of our police force’s budget for the borough....I.E pay up forget it.

It's nothing more than a load of pathetic bravado from tax-dodger Robinson. He already knows there is no way on this earth the local police are going to let the failing and in-fighting EDL ship in a handful of drunk football hooligans and misfit racists back in the borough to cause trouble.
He can then say "we were banned" rather than face the facts that his nasty rabble have lost the heart and interest in their hateful, bitter-minded battle. Like all extreme right-wing organisations (see the NF,BNP etc)they will fail in the fulness of time

I think he was on something when he did the short video, following a previous very long one ranting about god knows what.

While he was in the pub with his securty, his troops were stuck in the street with wet trousers. Not looking very happy with their lot.

Although the percieved threat of no liaison, they know they will get a visit soon to talk about plans, if they do not play ball then they will be arrested as soon as they meet up, up to them. One law, or no law!

If only the police had done their job properly last time. If only our local MP Stella Creasy had not organised mob violence by anti democratic left wing and muslim thugs then we would not be in this situation. I've seen the videos on youtube, the police allowed the UAF and muslims to throw bottles and run riot, it was a disgrace.

An no guardrain there wasn't "3000" counter demonstrators. It was mostly curious on lookers. The counter demonstration was not kettled so it makes the numbers look higher. I was a curious onlooker and while I don't support everything they do, fully support the EDLs democratic right to protest against islamic extremism, a cancer in our society. Let us not forget it was members of the walthamstow muslim community that hatched the airline liquid bomb plot.

@Harry J: the police have already said that they cannot stop the EDL's right to protest/march again

@roger1: there were at least 2000 counter demonstrators gathered in the Town Square - I did a rough count. All but around 30 marched and more joined the march along the way. The counter demonstration was most definitely kettled - many of us asked if we could leave when the counter demonstration reached Forest Road but were told by the riot police who were blocking our exit (along with 9 police vans on Hoe St) that we were being 'contained'. That means we were kettled. I watched a father and his young child beg the police to let him through the police lines so his child could get his medication. The police eventually let him through but no-one else. And the reason given by the police for this kettling? That some members of the EDL had left the main, police approved route and were taking other routes. I have made a complaint about the kettling that day as no verbal warning was made by the police that a containment order was about to be put in place which they usually do, to give people the chance to leave the area if they so wish.

Also Stella Creasy repeatedly said on Twitter that she advised local residents to stay away from the EDL route and march and certainly did not organise anything! She was listening to the bell ringing on the Arcade site that morning!

You say you saw clips on YouTube which I don't doubt, it is plainly obvious that you weren't actually there on the day.

As for saying that the Muslim community hatched the airline liquid bomb plot, was that the entire Muslim community? No it was a very small number of that community. And have you forgotten that the riots last summer involved people of all ages, from all backgrounds including white British people?

Totally respect all peoples' right to express their views here but at least get the facts right. It says at the bottom of this comments column 'do not post anything that is false....' and some of your comments/'facts' are just that.

@nairn"As for saying that the Muslim community hatched the airline liquid bomb plot"
I said "members" of the muslim community. The left is always quick to use the term the "muslim community" when painting them all as victims, well it works both ways.

And yes I was there. I walked up to forest road along hoe street and down forest road. I would've been counted as one of the 3000. I witnessed gangs of muslims youths blocking the return route on forest road, fighting police and running riot in side streets. 10 hours forest road was closed. Had it not been for the counter demo the EDL would've been and gone in 2 hours. Its all very well Stella saying ooh stay over here, but if you open a can of aggresive worms you can't control where they go. Stay away completely should've been the message. Have your islamist, sorry counter demo another day and avoid the violence. Let the police do their job and take of the EDL

This video makes it clear, the counter demonstrators were hurling bottles and rocks. The police failed to allow the EDL to hold their demo and gave into mob rule from the violent left wing and muslim extremists. Yet the counter demonstrators were allowed to have their rally in Walthamstow. This is disgusting violence from the counter demo and blatent prejudice by the police. All of this would've been avoided had there been no counter demo.

Why are you assuming I am 'left'? Because I was there? You were there too so you are left then?

Stella did say stay away from EDL march and nowhere has she stated anything that suggests she even remotely 'opened a can of worms'. Or do you have evidence to the contrary?

Why do I assume you're left? You were part of the demo therefore you're either left or muslim.

By organising a demo on the same day as the EDL, in the same area, with the UAF who are known to be violent and follow and confront the EDL all over the country, she is responsible for the trouble.
