Archbishop Desmond Tutu visited the Olympic Park today and said he believes the games will have a positive influence on the area.

The 78-year-old Nobel Peace Prize winner said: "One of the things we can learn about the Olympics is that it joins people together."

"The Olympic games are determined to show up and underscore diversity and unity in diversity.

"I have got to say that sport did that for us (South Africa) fantastically when we won the Rugby World Cup and Nelson Mandela came out in a Springbok shirt."

During the visit he met schoolchildren, construction workers and 2012 organisers.
