A SURGEON at Whipps Cross University Hospital will be swapping his knife for a baton when he conducts the European Doctors Orchestra next week.
Consultant surgeon Stephen Brearley will be heading up the orchestra of more than 55 European doctors at a special charity concert performing Beethoven.
Dr Brearley, who plays the piano and violin, will conduct the orchestra to perform Beethoven’s Overture Egmont, Piano concerto No 2 and Symphony No 7 at London’s Cadogan Hall, home of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
He said: “The European Doctors’ Orchestra is delighted to be supporting the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture (MF), which does fantastic work more than 2,000 torture survivors referred to it each year.
"We hope to raise more than £20,000 for the work of the foundation.”
The European Doctors’ Orchestra was founded in 2006 and has played in London, Bucharest, Budapest, Berlin, Verona and Poznan, raising money for medical and children’s charities.
Its members come from more than a dozen European countries.
