A YOUTH café had an “inspirational” visit from the Mayor of Waltham Forest.
Connect Café, a fortnightly event run by Waltham Forest Youth of Christ, for 14-19 year olds, welcomed a visit from Waltham Forest Mayor Cllr Anna Mbachu to the café in Leyton.
Waltham Forest Youth of Christ café organiser, Alex Haward, said: “The Mayor spoke to the young people about her role as a Mayor. A lot of young people were inspired by what she said.”
Fungai Marange, a 19-year-old student, said of the visit: “It was a very enjoyable experience, with great insight.
"However I believe that those in positions of influence who claim to care about young people today should be more active in relating to us at our level.”
Mr Haward said the aim of the café, which is open in Friday evenings, is to create a safe welcoming environment where young people and their friends can “chill out”.
He said young people from all faiths are welcome.
