WALTHAM FOREST: Explore the borough's pub trade

TWO walks have been organised to explore the borough’s pub trade.

With local history societies and staff at Walthamstow’s Vestry House Museum gearing up for autumn’s Behind The Bar exhibition, two walks have been organised to explore the borough’s pub trade.

Led by David Boote of the Leyton and Leytonstone Historical Society, the guided walks will take in pubs past and present, explaining their special history and local significance.

The walks are on Thursday at 7pm, meeting at the Lion and Key pub at 475 High Road Leyton and July 8 from 7pm, meeting at the Thatched House pub at 245 Leytonstone High Road.

Geraldine Reardon, Waltham Forest Counicl's cabinet member for leisure, arts and culture, said: “While not necessarily to everyone’s taste it can’t be denied that, at their very best, local pubs can really draw the local community together.

"I’d encourage anyone with an interest in local history to join one of the walks to find out more.”

Behind The Bar: The Licensed Trade In Waltham Forest, will open on October 9.

The exhibition will include tales of brewers and temperance campaigners, landlords and customers, pub outings and public disorder.
