Wettest month for many years
January has been the wettest on record for many parts of the country according to official records. My rain gauge in Theydon Bois totalled 6.62 inches, which I think makes it the wettest of any month for very many years in this area. Usually a very wet month reaches about 4 to 5 inches. My figure seems fairly typical for southern counties, although a higher one might well have been recorded in Loughton.
