The local council and mayoralty elections of May 2014 are an opportunity for Newham. For many years the Newham Labour Party(NLP) has enjoyed total or near total control of the Council and the Mayoralty. The 2014 elections are a chance to end this monopoly.
The vote will not be an anti-Labour vote but an anti-NLP vote. The absolute power granted by winning all council seats - and the mayoralty - has led to a disregard of resident’s wishes, most noticeably with the imposition of London City airport. The 2014 elections are an opportunity to correct this imbalance.
No single opposition party can challenge the NLP. Which is why NALA are announcing an anti-Labour alliance for voters of all political persuasions - including Labour - to use the upcoming elections to end the monopoly of the NLP.
We call on all other parties to put aside differences and unite to bring democracy back to Newham. Their differences may be irreconcilable but in Newham, they are not even being heard. No other party seriously expects a majority of seats or the mayoralty but by uniting against the NLP victories can be gained and an opposition restored to the borough.
