I asked a question at last week’s council meeting about plans for Wanstead Hospital. I did not receive a clear answer from the cabinet member, Cllr Fairley-Churchill, but what I did pick up was that the possible closure of beds has been known about for some time.
I and the rest of the Wanstead Labour Action Team share the frustration of local residents groups in getting a straight answer about the future of this important local service. They and we want to know what is going on and hopefully we will be able to work together to get the full picture.
After Mid-Staffs I would have thought that lessons would have been learnt about openness which is one of the key standards in public life.
I and my fellow Wanstead Labour Action Team members are making a firm pledge to campaign with local people to seek the disclosure of key documents and full public consultation.
