As headteacher of Downsell Primary School in Leyton, myself and my dedicated and talented staff are committed to providing our pupils with the highest quality education.

That’s why it was incredibly sad and frustrating to read the article in last week’s Guardian wrongly claiming that the school was judged by Ofsted as ‘inadequate’.

Downsell school has never been judged as ‘inadequate’, but we do recognise that our last inspection, where we were judged to be ‘requiring improvement’ after Ofsted removed the ‘satisfactory’ rating, highlighted a number of improvements we can make which we’re now
putting into action.

Our progress in making these changes was the focus of the Ofsted inspector’s letter in March and we will continue to build on this.

We aim to recognise every child’s individuality and give them the support, encouragement and challenge they need to fulfil their potential.

Everything we do at Downsell is underpinned by ensuring each and every child who attends the school is a success in life.

Let me assure you we are doing everything we can to act on those areas which need improvement.

However, this can’t be done on our own and we’d encourage parents, family, and friends of the school to help us achieve those high aspirations.
