I have just returned from Harrogate, Yorkshire – a city festooned with strings of small Tour de France jerseys; an old tree carved to show cyclists and the Eiffel Tower; shops and conference centres joining in with cycle motifs on their windows and old bicycles painted yellow on display.
The well-known cake shop is producing biscuit bicycles and shortbread teddies wearing appropriate jerseys.
I have just returned from Lea Bridge Road and there is no indication whatsoever that the cyclists will be coming anywhere near here.
Why not?
