I am glad that Cllr Stallen (Guardian, June 12) occasionally misses my contributions in the council; however he seems to have conveniently forgotten that I was present on the committee when the council house building programme was agreed.

Up to this point I have been the only UKIP voice on Epping Council, a lone voice in the sea of Conservatives. We now have two UKIP Epping councillors and hopefully next year there will be more. You will gradually hear the voice of UKIP more and more helping Epping council move in the right direction.

The public and the press saw Cllr Stallan’s arrogant and childish behaviour on the day of the election count when UKIP took the Honey Lane seat with a large increased majority. Cllr Stallan gave a display of rudeness which shocked and embarrassed even some of his own Conservative members who witnessed his behaviour. It is hardly surprising that local people are voting UKIP, when they see the arrogance of some Conservatives on the council.

There are others on Epping council who represent different views – Labour, Liberal, Loughton Residents Association, Green and now UKIP. It is however almost impossible to see any of these councillors within the Epping cabinet. If the Epping cabinet included views from all of these other parties, Cllr Stallan may have less to complain about.

With regard to the letter from Conservative Sam Kane mentioning immigration; I suggest that he try to get a doctors appointment in under one week, get a child into a school of his choice, get a job or visit the nearest accident and emergency hospital and wait less than five or six hours. You can throw Conservative or national statistics about as much as you like Sam, but these are the things that people care about and these are the points together with other local issues, which many of my constituents bring to me on a weekly basis.
