This tea hut has been in the family for over 80 years and I cannot see why it needs to go out to tender when there is no need for change.

It is a unique and valuable part of Epping Forest. We have been going to
this tea hut for many years now.

We are not bikers but walkers and this tea hut is an oasis in the desert of trees.

The tea hut is always open in rain, snow and searing heat and gales.

If he has a customer at any time, day or night, he will serve them. Yes, the cuisine is pretty basic, but what do you expect – it is a tea hut in the forest with no facilities.

It serves hot drinks, hot food, which is excellent, as well as cold drinks and freshly made rolls and that is all that is required and at a decent price.

All sorts of people come to the tea hut – rich or poor – and to change it will be detrimental to Epping Forest and to all those who use it.

City of London says it needs to ensure “value for money”.

Well if this isn’t value for money, I don’t know what is – 80p for a cup of tea.

We have many many friends and acquaintances that use the tea hut and do not want
any change, certainly not a Butler’s Retreat-type menu and prices.
