May I thank you for your eloquent defence of the Epping tea hut (Editor’s View, Guardian June 26).

The Corporation of London have been told to tighten their belt with regard to spending and instead of cutting back on their offensive gluttony and extravagances they pick on  a little tea hut in the middle of a forest.

Is this not the definitive definition of crass behaviour?

Commenting on public outrage a corporation spokesman says "we have received threats".

So how does he think those threats will manifest themselves or do they believe they are all hot air? If that is their view, they would be advised to contact the police for a bit of down to earth advice on hooligan retribution.

These jobsworths never think things through, all that governs their intellects is greed and profit.

If they proceed with their obnoxious behaviour they will reap the whirlwind and that is not a threat, but a prediction from someone who
has been around the block a few times.

There must be  one councillor in the Guildhall with a bit of common sense, so let them speak out and do the right thing.
