I would like to tell you how well Waltham Forest council organised the spectator arrangements for the Tour de France whizzing through the area on Monday - a once in a lifetime experience.

We live in Leigh-on-Sea and came up to Whipps Cross to watch the event.

We stood in a park area by the side of the road and we got there early to ensure that we could see well as the cyclists came through.

The weather was good and the large screen made sure we could watch how the Tour was moving towards where we were.

All the helpers and street entertainers were excellent, plus the general atmosphere was terrific.

Everyone was friendly and my husband and I got chatting to several people near where we were standing.

They were all very impressed with how well the council had organised their contribution to this amazing event.

Councils don’t always get everything right, but on this occasion let me tell you that they got it spot on.

So well done Waltham Forest council and thank you.

A day to remember for the rest of my life.

Niqui Denkmayer, Leigh-on-Sea.
