We are all concerned about air quality in London. The question we need to ask is how best to reduce pollution.
Unfortunately, the current European court case being brought against Britain about air pollution in London by the European Commission and some environmental campaigners will not solve the problem. Instead it will be seen as another example of unnecessary interference by the European Union, which will end up costing British taxpayers more money.
It is clear that excessive vehicle emissions can lead to asthma and other breathing difficulties. This is why both the British government and the Mayor of London have been working hard on measures to reduce pollution levels.
However, the likely outcome of this case before the European Court of Justice is that the UK will be slapped with a fine. Money which could otherwise have been used to reduce pollution will instead be used to pay fines to Europe.
