The petition on Redbridge Roundabout, signed by over 2,000 residents, was presented to Redbridge council for officers to liaise with TfL and Mayor of London to persuade them to:

- Change the phasing of other automatic traffic signals to allow up to five vehicles to go through from Redbridge Lane East junction into the roundabout.

- Install controlled lights, as a permanent feature, with at least four seconds of green time.

Tfl and the mayor of London have not budged. According to them it is not feasible to have traffic lights at that junction as it would have adverse impact on the traffic in other major roads, the A12 and A406.

No evidence of this adverse effect is offered. We do not believe this statement holds any water. Unless traffic from this junction is given four seconds of ‘green time’ this problem will become much worse as it is estimated traffic will increase by 3 per cent each year.

The situation in five years will become intolerable. So the problem will continue, pollution will keep on increasing affecting the health of both children, vulnerable and other residents, especially those walking during rush hours.

As a starting point we suggest that, for a period of six months, TfL and the Mayor of London should use temporary traffic lights at this junction to measure that impact.

Redbridge council and TfL should also consider: l The 366 bus turning right from the Underground station holds up traffic and drivers have to reverse to let it through.

- Other ways of using station’s forecourt should be considered. l The location of bus stops needs to be re-examined, as does the location of the pedestrian crossing.

 - The sheer volume of traffic using Redbridge Lane East and feeder roads from Roding Lane South and Longwood Gardens needs to be reduced by considering one way systems.

- There needs to be a traffic study to examine traffic management of wider area encompassing Woodford Avenue, Eastern Avenue, Roding Lane South and Redbridge Lane East. We have over 2,000 signatures and we want to reach at least 3,000. Please sign the petition, available on the RedRag website.
