Royal College of Nursing members will lobby the London Assembly today (Wednesday) to call for fair pay in the NHS and action to help end the capital’s nursing shortage.

London Assembly members will vote on a motion put forward by Dr Onkar Sahota, chair of the Assembly Health Committee, calling for Mayor Boris Johnson to adopt a key worker strategy and set out plans to better support nurses, paramedics and other key staff with the rising cost of living.

Nurses from across London will meet with Dr Sahota at City Hall this morning and will call for all London Assembly members to support the motion to help safeguard the quality of key services.

The Assembly will also pay tribute to the ongoing campaign by London health workers to secure fair NHS pay.

With NHS staff having faced pay freezes for much of the past five years the RCN has said that NHS employers in the capital are finding it more difficult to recruit sufficient staff to keep patients safe.
