A while ago (possibly 10 or so years) myself Gemma; and my dad; Mark agreed that we would do a marathon together when I was 21 and my dad was 50 as it was in the same year. I wimped out when I turned 21 and came up with lots of excuses. 2 years later I am feeling fit and ready to take on the challenge and my dad is ready for his 8th marathon (meaning I have my own personal coach/trainer). We have been training hard and taking part in various races beforehand, including the Milton Keynes 20 mile run.
We are running for Afasic, a UK charity who support parents and represent children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). My dad has worked for Afasic for over 15 years and I have supported them through volunteering and am now a part-time fundraising assistant, and we have both seen the importance of the charity and how much it helps both parents and young people with SLCN.
