A hospital trust has signed up to a leading charity initiative aiming to ensure the best possible care for breast cancer patients.
The Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust, which runs St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping, is hoping to improve home contact with patients following diagnoses, and provide extra information and support to relatives and partners of patients.
The trust identified the areas to change after signing up to Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s “service pledge” and carrying out questionnaires and workshops to find what patients want to change.
This will also include setting up a patient user group to review how resources are distributed.
Caroline Baya, breast cancer nurse at St Margaret’s Hospital, said: “It is very exciting, positive and rewarding to be part of this worthwhile project.
“Firstly because it is patient driven, we want to respond to patient experiences and needs, and second because it is a team project and initiative which has helped us grow and develop a high quality service we can sustain and build upon.”
