Volunteers at a museum undergoing major refurbishment have been nominated for a regional award.

The collections team at the Epping Forest District Museum has been nominated in the Behind the Scenes category at the 2015 SHARE Volunteer Awards, which seeks to recognise the contribution volunteers make to museums and their communities.

The museum in Sun Street, Waltham Abbey, has been undergoing refurbishment since January and a re-opening date has not yet been announced.

The inside of the museum has received a complete redesign and it will be expanding into the library next door after it received a £1.65million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Katie Weston, the museum’s volunteer co-ordinator, said: “We are thrilled that our collections volunteer team have been recognised for the SHARE volunteer awards.

“They are a brilliant team who add so much expertise and enthusiasm to the Epping Forest District Museum service.

“As a small museum team, we really appreciate the support of local volunteers, who are helping us shape our new museum through our heritage lottery funded re-display.”

Winners of the SHARE awards will be announced at a celebration and awards evening on June 4 in Bury St Edmunds.
