A housing provider has been teaming up with schools to give pupils an insight into the world of work.

Teenagers from Walthamstow’s Frederick Bremer School in Siddeley Road swapped the classroom for a week of work with Ascham Homes.

Eight Year 10 students from Frederick Bremer School spent five days following in the footsteps of the individuals who keep the council’s housing contractor ticking along, between May 18 and 22.

Danyl Khawar spent with the week with the grounds maintenance team.

“I want to be a mechanic when I leave school so being shown how to service these machines is a great starting point for me,” he said.

Others shadowed housing officers on their rounds, visiting sheltered housing schemes, and spent time with repairs teams.

They also designed some posters and gave staff their feedback on the Ascham Homes website and social media.

Jo Murphy, Ascham Homes Deputy Chief Executive said it was a “pleasure” having the students.
