Suggestions are being sought on what projects should be funded through the remaining Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

CIL charges developers on new buildings in Redbridge, with most of this money being spent on council priorities such as helping to pay for schools, leisure centres, health care facilities and transport.

But yesterday (June 1) the council has announced that it is seeking suggestions for what the remaining 15 per cent should be spent on.

Money could be spent on park improvements, improved lighting, road crossing improvements, or work to improve public areas.

Labour councillor Helen Coomb, cabinet member for planning, said: “It’s only fair that residents should receive a tangible share of the benefits that new developments bring.

“We are now making it easier for residents to receive and spend CIL money on the local facilities they want, making local areas more attractive for everyone.

“I urge residents to take advantage of the funding and tell us what projects they want to improve their neighbourhoods.”

Applications for projects will close on August 31 and final decisions will be made in Autumn 2015.
