A charity event for people who want to get fit while raising money for a children’s hospice is being held this weekend.

The Trisport Epping triathlon club is holding the Try a Tri event, which will introduce people to the sport while raising money for Woodford Green-based Haven House hospice, which cares for children with serious illnesses.

The event is being held at Ongar Leisure Centre in Fyfield Road on Sunday and is open to beginners and novices who want to try their hand at the daunting athletic event.

Participants in the event will swim 300m, cycle 21km and run 4km.

Alison Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg of Trisport Epping said: “It is very tough for some people who want to dip their toes without feeling intimidated.

“This is the ideal event for that, the distances are very manageable.

“It is an all age sport, families can take part and it just goes to a good cause.”
