People are invited to celebrate the breaking the fast of Ramadan at a church this weekend.
“The Big Iftar”, on Saturday (June 27) at Leytonstone United Free Church, encourages Muslim communities to welcome their friends and neighbours of all faiths to join them in sharing during the holy festival.
During the sunlight hours of Ramadan, no food or water may pass the lips of a practicing Muslim with exceptions made for age and health.
Rukhsana Yaqoob, president of the Muslim Teachers’ Association, said: “At precisely 9.20pm we will be breaking the fast with our Muslim friends and neighbours.
“This is a chance to find out more about each other, to reach across cultural divides and be neighbourly.
Everyone is welcome to the event which will run from 8pm-10pm.
