A resident is appealing for volunteers for a litter-pick after being “surprised” at the amount of rubbish in the streets.

Daniel Jarrett, who moved to Leytonstone six months ago, will be flyering the area to try and garner interest in a new group The Leytonstone Litterpickers.

Mr Jarret said on moving to Waltham Forest: "I had previously lived in Hong Kong and Berlin and I was surprised at the amount of rubbish on the streets here, especially in local bushes and parks.”

“I felt that one of the ways this could be tackled was by taking local action and trying to start up a group.

“There are many roads in Leytonstone so we have started small in the hope that if more people turn up, it can be extended to cover greater areas.”

Their first litterpick is this Sunday from 12pm starting at the top of Colworth Road and aims to finish at the Sir Alfred Hitchcock Hotel in Whipps Cross Road by 3pm.
